Pre-Fight Preparation For MMA Fitness

Mixed martial arts(MMA) is a mixed bag, and MMA fitness takes on this quality. But mixed doesn't mean confusedmixed martial arts merges the strengths of several types of martial arts, creating an altogether new and extreme combat sport.

When people are first interested in mixed martial arts, they often presume that they can just master the two best forms of martial arts, and they are pretty much on their way. Not true. In the first place, there is no "best" martial art. They all are different and it would be like comparing fruit. This is not the way to go if you want to achieve MMA fitness.

Instead, you have to train for all of them, all at once. This is because each type of martial art has its area of focus, and a mixed martial artist needs to focus on all of them. MMA fitness requires that you understand this.

For example, jiu jitsu focuses use of strength on the ground. If you go against a mixed martial artist and your specialty is jiu jitsu, he may realize this in time and use other martial art forms to keep you standing and to prevent you from getting him on the ground. That is why mixed martial arts is a mixed bag. It involves doing everything, all together, and simultaneously.

Preparing For The Fight

Let us walk you through an MMA fitness routine. Suppose you are out of shape and are really starting from point A. Suppose, too, your fight is scheduled three months away. In your initial training session you might go through the usual warm-up, a workout, and perhaps the Thai pads. This may involve 10 rounds of only one minute. Yes, one minute. People may think you are crazy, but you won't care because you know what you are doing.

A week later, you can do ten rounds of one and a half minutes. From there, add an additional 30 seconds to your workout every week until you have hit five minutes. MMA fitness is about doing things slowly and gradually, because before you realize it, your routine will be tougher than you expected.

An advanced training schedule for mixed martial arts can be as arduous as training twice a day, four days of the week; one time two days a week; and one day offmost likely Sundays.

MMA fitness requires that even when you are at the height of your regimen you must pace yourself in terms of how much commitment you will give to each training session. If you go one hundred percent each time you will burn out. Save some sessions for just going at 80%. Even at this stage there are areas of pacing that you must adhere to in order to win.

The closer you are to the fight, the more you have to build yourself up and train harder and harder. The key word to all of this is pacing. If you start to rev up too early, for example if six weeks before the fight you are already going six rounds of seven minutes, you simply will not make it. MMA fitness does not work that way. Go slow, but always go forward, and you will attain the height of MMA fitness that you need in order to win.

This article explains a few things about bjj strength training, and if you're interested, then this is worth reading, because you can never tell what you don't know.

Sometimes the most important aspects of a subject are not immediately obvious. Keep reading to get the complete picture.

Okay, so you want to be super-strong like mixed martial arts & boxing athletes. I get it. You are already strength hungry. Or you are not getting the results you wish at the gym and worrying about whether you'll be able to reach your strength goals. I've been there. I've retired from working out three times. I know how you feel.

But here's the thing. The secret to strength training for MMA is this: Unorthodox. Never continue with the same old boring routines everyone tells you to do. MMA exercises will pay you dividends till the day you die. The fitness benefits are outstanding. I'm sure you've realized this already.

There is nothing you can do that compares to strength training for MMA. This is ultimate, unparalleled fitness training. I know how most people who want fitness results think. I've done surveys, I've taught people. They don't want to be told they have to change things up completely. They want easy solutions. Big returns.

Today, I'm going to expose the secrets of my strength training for MMA routine. How I train. It's all about sticking to the basics. It's not difficult. In fact, it's easy. If this doesn't sound like too much braggadocio to you, read on.
Successful training for strength has three elements:

1. Explosivity
2. Working your body as a whole
3. Raw power

All other things being equal, if you incorporate these three elements, you'll get big returns fast. And these are easy to incorporate. I'll show you exactly how.

Explosivity: Each workout you do should be explosive. For 1 month, I would do 3-4 sets of 10 reps. Then, I would change my workout up completely and do 1 set of 50 reps for each strength exercise.

When you are strength training for MMA, be sure to be explosive in your workouts. Be like a boxer. Go hard during the round then take a complete full rest between rounds. Being explosive will ensure you won't get bulky and you'll be pushing your body. This will improve your maximal strength levels.

Working your body as a whole: Strength training for MMA relies on working your core. An absolutely freaking amazing way to do this is "caveman training". Brock Lesnar and other superstars use these strength training for MMA tactics...Of course. Caveman training means using your body's weight. The #1 best method to workout your body as a whole is hindu pushups. If you've never done hindu pushups and you bench 400-pounds, you'll still find them a challenge. This is pure strength training for MMA and wrestling.

I've noted many fighters who give up weight training completely for caveman exercises like hindu pushups because they feel so much stronger and better after only a couple weeks of doing hindu pushups.

Raw power: Successful strength training for MMA relies on exercises for pure raw power. And no, I'm not talking about the bench press or bicep curls. In fact, fighter athletes rarely use this kind of average "joe blow" training.

Deadlifts, lower back exercises, heavy leg presses and pullups are some great exercises for pure raw power. Raw power comes from routines based on movement patterns in boxing and mixed martial arts. This involves lunging, squating, bending, pulling, push, pull, twist and core stability. Strength training for MMA 1-arm tripod rows are great for building raw power. Many superstar boxing and martial arts athletes will also push a tire on a mat across the gym and then pull it back towards themselves. If you can do this workout, it'll do wonders for you.

The lead up to a fight is sometimes regarded as being just as important as laying your first punch. The fighter's sleep patterns, food intake and wellbeing are vital in maintaining good health and fitness which will last through the fight. To some, the nutritional part is the most important area to get right, just before a fight. Whether it's Muay Thai, UFC, MMA or Capoeira, fighters need good, high quality food to be able to perform.

Therefore, rice, boiled vegetables, pastas, tuna and oats are some of the best types of food to consume before a fight. The stomach cannot be busy digesting food, while the fighter is taking repeated blows to the abdomen. Eating around 3-4 hours before a fight is recommended.

The best way to understand how and what to eat is to try different things in training. Eat red meat a few hours before a training session, then watch as vomiting, headaches and lethargy ensues. The Importance Of Weight Room Training When Preparing For A Mixed Martial Arts Fight.

Contrary to what many believe, the importance of weight room training when preparing for mixed martial arts fights cannot be understated. Over the years, many people mistakenly believe that weight training will cause loss of flexibility and a decrease in speed and this is not so when weight training is tailored to martial arts requirements.Weight room training is a very important part of Mixed martial arts training for a very a number of reasons.

A mixed martial artist needs not only the strength and power for use as attack but must also have the muscle power and stamina to absorb an attack from his opponent. It should be obvious that if one person has been training and doing squats and bench presses, he is going to be stronger than the guy who only does half the amount of weight training. Nobody is suggesting that you go to the gym and begin to bulk up, far from it. But with a program especially for the mixed martial artist, with your body weight and shape in mind, you will be able to notice a difference in no time. As an example, doing 3 sets of 15 reps of squats, the same with leg curls and leg extensions, add to this walking lunges, standing or seated calf raises, all while using dumbbells (not overly heavy) and including some bench presses should see you building strength fairly quickly.

At this stage, though, as with any new mixed martial arts training regimes, you may notice some soreness as you will be working muscles that have not been worked at this intensity before. Any soreness will decrease as your body adjusts to this new regimen and begins to strengthen. It is wise to consult a trainer at your gym with regards to the exact type of weight training that is right for you. Advise him that you do mixed martial arts and as a precaution, be sure to advise him of any injuries you have had in the past.
